Cost per fluid ounce of pure alcohol
We convert the complete package volume to U.S. fluid ounces, then multiply by alcohol by volume. Reported price divided by that pure-alcohol volume gives the original Alcohol Shopper metric.
Cost per standard drink
A U.S. standard drink contains 0.6 fluid ounces, or about 14 grams, of pure alcohol. We divide each package's pure alcohol by 0.6, then divide price by the resulting drink count.
How rankings choose prices
State views use the lowest reported price for each product and package in that state. The all-states view uses the lowest reported price across available states. Taxes, deposits, and live availability are not included.
Legacy package normalization
Historical labels are mapped to physical package volumes. Common aliases such as Fifth and Bottle (750ML) share one 750 ml package definition. Source labels remain available for auditing.
